R.T. Spellman is an imaginative and published wordsmith. A former attorney and educator, R.T.’s passion for storytelling goes back to the age of 10, where the desire to conjure and communicate unique, vivid stories began.

As a young child, R.T. was a voracious reader, absorbing as many nuances of netherworlds, creatures, and characters as possible. R.T. became immersed in alternate realities; hours were spent exploring and extrapolating imaginary people, places, things, and scenarios.

For R.T., story ideas began with dreams (and sometimes nightmares.) To memorialize these concepts and better understand them, R.T. turned them into short stories. Some of these tales even won competitions.  Two specific stories were so realistic that the school authorities required a parent-teacher conference to investigate further.

Wanting to be a more well-rounded writer, R.T. pursued a background in directing, acting, and producing. R.T. also realized the need to combine creative with business, graduating summa cum laude with a B.S., and later receiving a juris doctorate; all with multiple academic awards. R.T. is also a member of Alpha Chi and the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, International.

For most people, researching, drafting, composing legal documents and arguing cases in court doesn’t sound very interesting.  But these situations became excellent training for creating complex characters, situations, motivation and dialog, as well as maintaining realism, continuity and plausibility. These life observations, intriguing situations, psyches, unique personality traits and quirks, provided the best plausible and comprehensive characters and stories possible, focusing on relationships, realism, and relatability.

As a “jack-of-all-trades” with an interesting variety of experiences, R.T. has collected endless fodder for her copious storylines. Over the years, the self-taught R.T. learned a variety of writing formats: from academia, business, legal, procedural and technical, to short stories, TV scripts and commercials, screenplays, stage plays, PSA’s, novellas and novels. No genre is too hard to tackle.

R.T. is the co-creator of the documentary Rudy, which resulted in the film of the same name, writer and/or producer of low-budget films, series programming, and stage production.

“Writing is the conveyance of imagery and thoughts; the more cohesive the words and structure, the easier the visualization and communication.”
